    DataHub Core review

DataHub Core is the best tool for data engineering teams that want a flexible, self-hosted metadata platform and are comfortable operating it themselves across complex, multi-source data environments.

    — Ari Bajo, Founder of toolsfordata.com

    Strengths

    • Free and open source, with one of the largest communities in the category.
    • Lineage with OpenLineage support and impact analysis.
    • Data contracts and data products in the open-source version.

    Caveats

    • You run it yourself: ingestion, upgrades and scaling are on you.
    • The built-in PII classifier was removed after version 1.6.0.5.
    • AI assistants and agents are Cloud-only.

    When to look elsewhere

Choose DataHub Core for a free, self-hosted catalog with strong lineage. For the same with AI agents and no operations, consider DataHub Cloud or Collate.
